about the edible schoolyard

Opened to the public in 2010, The Edible Schoolyard is MBCM’s half-acre urban teaching garden and classroom kitchen. Ingredients from The Edible Schoolyard are used in most classes at The Cooking School.

A national movement led by chef and food activist Alice Waters, The Edible Schoolyard philosophy continues to shine through each cooking class for kids as young as three through adulthood. The Cooking School connects people to their health, the earth, and each other to make sustainable food education available to all.

The Edible Schoolyard is a resource for families and teachers, as we offer field trips, summer camps, afterschool programming, community events and cooking classes that provide hands-on experiences with a focus on fresh, seasonal food, wellness, and outdoor play. By giving kids a greater knowledge of and connection to what they eat, we inspire them to make better choices for their health and the health of their communities.
