Through play, children learn! At the Greensboro Children’s Museum, we offer a myriad of interactive learning experiences for children of all ages, which contribute to their growth and development. Our kids programs focus on a variety of topics for ages 6-11 with an emphasis on developing the “whole” child. All programs listed below are led by qualified educators and help children develop cognitive skills, social skills, new vocabulary and more.

afterschool series

Join us after school for a deep dive into special topics including robots and cooking. Led by a qualified instructor, your child will learn fundamental skills that are integral to their growth and development in each class. All series are drop-off programs. Caregivers can wait in the Museum or leave and return for pick-up. Class fees vary. Space is limited. Early registration strongly recommended.

cooking classes

Cooking classes at GCM give children (and adults!) a hands-on experience in the kitchen that focuses on fresh, seasonal food and wellness. Each class is an opportunity for children to try new foods, learn about where food comes from, and meet friends. All skill levels are welcome!

With the exception of family cooking classes, all paid classes and camps are drop-off programs. Caregivers can wait in the Museum or leave and return for pick-up.

grow it, cook it, eat it!
Life-long food habits are rooted in our childhoods. Designed by GCM educators for grades K through 2, Grow It, Cook It, Eat It! engages children in growing and preparing fresh foods. This program contributes to creating a foundation for a healthier food lifestyle, as children are more inclined to eat and enjoy a wider variety of fruits and vegetables if they are involved in growing and cooking it.

Each week, GCM educators visit a partner school and conduct a science lesson in gardening or food preparation. Children also receive a simple, low-cost recipe to take home and share with their loved ones.

cooking for life
GCM partners with an organization each year to provide third and fourth graders with an in-depth, hands-on cooking program afterschool. The overall goal of Cooking for Life is to help students learn and develop healthy eating habits and cooking efficacy. Each week, students prepare a recipe in the kitchen and learn about where the ingredients came from, most of which are grown in The Edible Schoolyard, the Museum’s half-acre garden.

At the end of the program, students will have acquired skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. By improving children’s food literacy, we empower them to live healthier, more sustainable lives and cultivate the overall health of our community.
