On May 15, 2019, the Greensboro Children’s Museum will celebrate its 20th birthday. Located in downtown Greensboro, the Children’s Museum has opened its doors to more than 2.7 million visitors since 1999. To recognize this important milestone, GCM invites its members and the local community to join us in celebrating the Museum’s past, but also acknowledging its foothold on the future.
A time capsule sealing is the first of a series of events celebrating the Museum’s birthday. Additionally, we will host a Gala fundraiser, a tween day, an adult night, and a community-wide scavenger hunt.

Time Capsule Sealing
Wednesday, May 15

Since its opening in 1999, the Greensboro Children’s Museum has experienced growth and plans to grow even more. Local attractions will provide items to be placed in a time capsule in front of the Museum. Join us as we collect items to be placed in the time capsule that will be sealed and opened in 50 years. This event is free and open to the public.
We are looking for items from Downtown Greensboro businesses that provide a snapshot of today or showcases growth over the last 20 years. Examples of items include letters, photos, small mementos, guides and plans. Documents can be up to 8.5” tall x 11” wide x .5” thick. Other items can be no larger than a fist. Limited space is available.
The Gala
Friday, May 17

The Gala, GCM’s largest fundraiser, brings some of the Triad’s best food and beverage makers to the Museum floor. More than 20 chefs, brewers and distillers will be featured throughout our exhibits. Experience sliders by our Airplane Slide, local beers in our Big Red Chair, and craft cocktails in hand as you wander our Edible Schoolyard garden. The Gala is GCM’s big 20th birthday bash! Must be 21 years or older to attend.
Member Appreciation Breakfast Sponsored by Chick-Fil-A
Monday, May 20
9a – 12p
Come dressed in your favorite pajamas for this special sleepytime Member Appreciation event. Members will enjoy some soothing yoga, a bedtime story and a craft with their little ones. Breakfast will be provided by Chick-Fil-A.
GCM Scavenger Hunt
Friday, May 24

With more than 20 indoor and outdoor exhibits at the Greensboro Children’s Museum, there’s lots to explore! The whole family will work together, moving throughout the Museum, to hunt for answers and learn about the exhibits. Prizes will be awarded. Admission will be half-price beginning at 5p.
Also, make GCM a one-stop shop! Plan for dinner at Lillie Mae’s Kitchen, who will be outside the Museum selling delicious dishes.
#ThrowbackThursday: Adult Night at GCM

A lot has changed at the Greensboro Children’s Museum since its opening in 1999! In celebration of the Museum’s 20th birthday, GCM will open its doors for an adults-only play date. Climb to new heights on the eye-catching 30-foot-tall XXL Neptune Climbers, go fishing in the new Water Wonders exhibit, serve pizzas in the Pizza Pan and more as you explore. Must be 21 years or older to attend. Food and beer will be available for purchase.
End of Year Climb (for ages 11-14)

Come celebrate the end of the school year with a special middle school only event at the Greensboro Children’s Museum! Ages 11-14 are invited to enjoy the Museum’s popular XXL Neptune Climbers, which stand 30 feet tall overlooking downtown Greensboro. This is a drop-off event at the Climbers.
