One of the Museum’s largest exhibits is The Edible Schoolyard, a half-acre teaching garden and kitchen. In the garden, we help kids and families discover the important connections between their food, the earth and eachother through garden-based programs and The Cooking School. The Edible Schoolyard serves as an outdoor playscape for visitors and a working food garden for field trips and afterschool programs, and provides an abundance of seasonal produce for cooking classes. Growing food sustainably would not be possible without the many volunteers who commit their time and energy to work alongside us.
We are currently seeking volunteers to join us for our August drop-in hours. Here are just a few of the benefits of volunteering in the garden:
- You can make a difference in your community and inspire others to take a deeper interest in their food;
- You will learn about growing food and ornamentals from our Gardener;
- Weeding can be an excellent form of meditation! Whether you are practicing the art of silence or wanting to catch up on your favorite podcast – give your brain a break and soak in some nature right in the heart of downtown Greensboro;
- You can find your community. In the garden, you’ll meet people with similar interests;
- And you’ll get a workout in while helping others. Gardening tasks can be scaled up or down to meet almost every ability and interest level.
Please join us and help support our work in food education in Greensboro. Must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer. All skill levels are welcome!
Ready to Volunteer? Just Drop-In! August Drop-In Hours: Wednesdays and Thursdays 7:30am – 9:30am. Meet you at the garden gate!
