We love superheroes at the Greensboro Children’s Museum. As many children and families stay home during this time, there are everyday heroes who have kicked it into high gear to keep our communities going. To all essential workers, we thank you for being our superheroes. We appreciate you putting on your capes each day to ensure the safety and wellbeing of others.
We encourage families to take time and show their gratitude. Here are five ways to say thank you:
Create a sign
Using materials from around your house, you can design a display for those who pass by. A poster board, trifold board, or construction paper taped together can provide a large backdrop for expressing your gratitude. You can hang your finished sign in a window, tape it to your door, or stake it in your yard for essential workers to see as they drive by.
Write a note
You may see essential workers throughout the day — at a restaurant as they take your take-out order, from your porch as they deliver your mail, at the grocery store as they re-stock shelves. Share kind words on an index card or sticky note and leave them for an essential worker to see during their shift.
Phone an essential worker you know and check in
During these uncertain times, essential workers may be feeling a mix of emotions. Kids can sing a song for a loved one or show off any projects they worked on during the day. Check in periodically to show your support and lend a listening ear.
Prepare a dish
Many essential workers are putting in long hours during this time. Preparing hot meals and/or baked goods will help keep them fueled throughout the day.
Post and tag a business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter
Is your favorite restaurant still open for take-out? Has your loved one continued to receive home-based care? Post a shoutout on your Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and tag these businesses to help spread the word on their services. You can include a recommendation or why you love something unique to the company.
We may not always see the capes these superheroes wear, but we’re fortunate to have so many among us. Over the years, the Greensboro Children’s Museum has received support from many businesses, foundations and individuals.
